World's First AI Assisted Sewer Wins Smart 50 Awards

Each year, Smart Cities Connect recognizes 50 of the most innovative applications of smart municipal services from cities around the world with the Smart 50 Awards. The Department of Water Resources under Taoyuan City Government used AI to accelerate the sewerage design, winning the award, showing the world the effectiveness of amazing results from Taoyuan CIty Government's push in smart policies.
The Department of Water Resources said that water resources business has advanced in response to the advent of the AI era. Using AI technology to conduct general review for sewer design, identify underground pipeline crossing problems, and automatically plan out best location and depth for pipeline placement has significantly reduced the design time by more than two months compared with traditional methods, saving more than 70% of the time spent. The comprehensive design also reduces risks of construction obstacles and allows smoother construction process. Returning the road to the people as soon as possible for them to enjoy the quality of life they deserve in an advanced city.
The Department of Water Resources also said that this innovative service is built on the "Taoyuan Department of Water Resources 3D GIS Management System", subsidized by the Department of Construction, Ministry of the Interior. Showcasing a successful collaboration between central and local governments to make water management smart.
In the future, the system will continue to be optimized through digital technology to make Taoyuan City a model for digital decision making, e-governance, and digital service for all counties and cities.
